OMI Light XL Metamorphosis

The OMI light XL Metamorphosis, was designed specially for EOS new HQ building in Munich as part of the company lighting art commission for the main building atrium.

The design was based upon the older OMI formation and flexible mechanics from the early 2000’s. We used dedicated morph and shape generative scripts to explore the morphology and structural integrity. The flexible structure is changing under its own weight, and challenging in this case was controlling the shape flexibility vs durability and form continuity.

To save costs and machine production energy, we designed the OMI 2in1

This intricate structure is nesting together with a gap of only 0.3mm to avoid fusing during the SLS / 3D printing process
