Ai Stool

The AI stool was Designed By Assa Ashuach in 2004 – 2005 using a 3D AI algorithm that looked at optimising the material usage and porosity while supporting a load of up to 120kg. Support was generated only where needed. The result was a strong 40cm high seat produced with two third of the material originally anticipated.

As part of the Osteon Ai micro-structure algorithmic design project, this was the first time the notion of bespoke internal porosity was introduced, before the concept of ‘infill’ became known in the industry.

The AI stool is part of materialise MGX collection.

3D Ai generative process

The following are some images from the 3D Ai generative process. The Ai stool was designed and additive manufactured in 2004-5. Firstly presented at London design week in 2006.
